Family Photos with Baby D and her family

I spent a little time at the park with Baby D, and her family, it is a great way to start the day, I smile for days after a family portrait session. First it is all the giggles during the session, and then I smile again every time I open the digital files to process the images. It took a little while Baby D and I to connect and get that perfect look.

But it didn’t last long…..IMG_6669web

I won’t take it personally that she found the grass more exciting then the photographer, I will just smile for the rest of the day!

P.S. the rest of the family is pretty cute as well!

Olympic Plaza, Calgary Alberta

Visiting my home town over the last couple of weeks has been great. Visiting family and friends of course the best part, but I have also had a chance to play tourist and see some of the city where previously I was too busy with work to see and enjoy. The Olympic Plaza just one the great gathering places downtown. It was built and used for the medal presentations when Calgary hosted the 1988 Olympic Games, and is now used for festivals and events. the pool is drained and bands play on the stage, there is square dancing during the Stampede, and during the winter the water is frozen and we can ice skate there.

I used a fish-eye lens to capture as much of the skyline as possible, most of the high rise office towers in Calgary’s downtown core are to the west of the Olympic Plaza so we get a peek at the great Alberta sky, as well as the new Bow Building on the left side of the frame. The Bow Building is currently the tallest building.

For the photographers who read the blog, to process the image I used Camera Raw, Lens Correction, Manual, it does an amazing job fixing lens perspective, and straightening lines. I was surprised! I also increased clarity and vibrance, and burned a little more detail into the clouds, but the work on it was very minor.

Playing tourist in my own home town I am finally finding time to see some of the wonderful art on the streets of Calgary Alberta.

Wanda; Relationship Coach; Calgary Portrait Photography

Wanda, Calgary based relationship coach. I love her motto: Life might not be the party we expected; but while we are here we might as well dance.

Knowing we need to make a change, figuring out what that change should look like, and then making that change is practically impossible for most of us. I  will be honest with you, bad habits seem so much easier to stick with than good habits, or is it just me?

We have all heard that working with a coach is a great way to help figure out priorities; determine the change that would yield the best results, and  keep us accountable to our goals. Wanda works with people making relationship changes and people wanting better relationships.

I first met Wanda at the BNI, Rocky Mountain Thunder meeting, and it was a great pleasure to work with her for business portraits, and learn a little more about her work.  Spark Change Now

Thanks Wanda, I going dancing!!!

December of 2013 was a busy month, so busy that in order to enjoy the season’s festivities, visiting the family and friends that I had to drop a few things off the “to do” list. One of those things was blogging, so I have a few posts to catch up on. I had several portrait sessions, and a few Calgarians, entrepreneurs to introduce you to.

The first of these business portraits sessions was for Luke, of Evolution Tickets is a full service brokerage in the secondary ticketing market, “Any Ticket, Any Time, Anywhere” they will do what they can to get great premium tickets for high demand events including sporting events across Canada and the U.S., broadway events in NYC, or concerts in Las Vegas. I would highly recommend giving them a call if you want tickets for an event, they will get those tickets for the best price. It was great met Luke, while working with him I learned about his business and his commitment to customer service.

I met Luke through the BNI, Business Networking International, Rocky Mountain Thunder Chapter, they have networking meetings Thursday morning at the Blackfoot Inn. A lot of members in the group have been able to acquire tickets with the help of Evolution Tickets, and recommend his service; give him a call next time you are looking for tickets. For information on Rocky Mountain Thunder  and how they can help you grow your business check out the BNI RMT facebook page

I am going to get back into the routine of blogging every 2 or 3 days, I am planning on catching up on more portraits over the next couple of weeks, introducing you to some other Calgary Businesses, but I will try to show you a little more of Calgary as well. By the end of Febuary Bill and I will be hitting the road and doing some travelling, so the blog posts will include our travels and the places we see and the people we meet. 2014 is going to be an exciting year….

Charles Fair, Calgary Mediator and Lawyer; Calgary Business Portraits

Charles Fair, Calgary Lawyer and Mediator, Mainwood Legal Services, Calgary Alberta

I met Charles Fair through BNI, Rocky Mountain Thunder he was looking for Business Portraits to use on his website, as well as his LinkedIn etc.  I packed up the studio and travelled to Charles’s office to do the business portraits, he has this great red/burgundy colored wall that looked wonderful, we also used another wall, you know the colour, average off white office wall color, I am glad Charles choose to use this one, it really does set the portrait apart from the normal.

Now a little about Charles…..

Charles Fair has been a lawyer for over twenty years, since 1992.  He provides a range of legal services to individuals and business, representing clients who are in conflicts, or hoping to avoid conflicts, regarding business, family law, divorce, personal injury and estate matters.

Charles works closely with his clients to achieve the best resolution possible in each case. Building his mediation practise, he wants to help his clients find a solution appropriate for everyone involved and that builds relationships, in a timely and cost efficient way. Charles understands that sitting down together, with a structured plan, and to estabilish common ground and a goal to resolution, makes sense to everyone. Mediation is his first choice in resolving disputes, but not his only skill.

One of the best parts of being a photographer who specializes in Business Portraits is the interesting people I meet. Spending about 45 minutes in the studio or on location, the time goes by as I learn a little about each person. Most busy professionals are reluctant to take this kind of time out of their busy schedules for photos, but I have found that if we can spend a little time together, people start to relax and their personality shows through. It is hard to set that 2 x 3 image Linkedin image apart from all the others, but it is possible.

Thanks Charles for giving me this opportunity to work with you.
