Shadows and Sun-flare; Monochrome Madness

Last week we visited Bath England, early that morning we were out wandering the streets, only a few people were on the street headed to work, so the streets were quiet. Early morning can be a great time to wander the streets with a camera, while the contrast between the light and the shadows can be strong and ruin many travel photos, interesting details and shadows can be found.

The bike culture in big in Bath, with plenty of bike rentals available for both tourist and residents to use, bike lanes make it easy to bike around the city. It isn’t unusual to see them locked up to every railing and lamp-post in the city, but it is unusual to find one bike alone, the shadow so clear, and so beautifully framed. In fact 10 minutes later I was back down the street and the bike was gone! It was a great day, even if we were still looking for a cup of coffee!

I have submitted this to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness blog post. Once a week photographers from around the globe submit their favourite black and white image and Leanne Cole curates the images into a single blog post. There is so many great images I recommend you head over and check out the work.

Plaza Espana, Merida Spain,

Plaza Espana, Merida Spain on a Saturday night

We were sitting having a glass of wine in the Plaza Mayor, here in Merida last night. It was full of kids playing, parents with strollers, and old people walking hand in hand.  Thought out the square there are about 4 or 5 Tapa bars where music was playing, and people were visiting. I decided a long exposure showing people moving about was a wonderful way of capturing the light, and the life of the square.

Photos are available through my gallery.

Seeing the Louve through the Passage Richelieu, Paris France

We were walking to the Louve, this wasn’t our first visit, but it was the first time through the Passage Richelieu, and the sunlight off the glass pyramid was beautiful the shadows creating a graphic on the floor. The juxtaposition of old stone passage, with the modern glass pyramid, and another old building behind it, gives a sense of walking around Paris where old and new architecture sit so comfortably together.

Travellers Overlooking the Caribbean Ocean

Overlooking the Caribbean Ocean

Overlooking the Caribbean Ocean

Driving home last night it was cold, foggy; this morning when I woke up the frost covered the trees, it was snowing and right now it is -6C.  As far as winter in Canada the temperatures really aren’t that cold, and admittedly it is much colder in other parts of the country.  But like most Canadians at this point of the year we are dreaming of travelling to someplace warmer!

This photo was taken sometime ago and the travellers/tourists out sightseeing, are enjoying not only the nice warm ideal weather, but the beautiful view of the Caribbean Ocean. Their dark silhouette against the blue ocean and framed by the tree makes it a perfect postcard memory!

How about you where would you like to be standing today?
