Eliis Island Luggage, Ellis Island Museum

One of the displays at Ellis Island Museum, a sample of the luggage new citizens to the United States brought with them.

Atlas at Rockefeller Center NYC

Atlas just out side the doors of the Rockefeller Center, 5 ave between 50 st. and 51 st. New York Center, is in the foreground, St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

I have followed the tutorial for creating black and white images on the Photoblog challenges website, and I am quite happy with the way the image turned out – blacks are solid, but there is still definition in the shoulders of the statue. The sky was quite blown out, so there is no detail in the sky, but I think good definition in the Cathedral.

I also found inspiration with Marina Chetner, and a couple of post she has done recently.

Manhattan a view from the Empire State Building

Manhattan from the Empire State Building! Yesterday was a busy day, Rockerfeller Center, Empires State Bulding, we took the train to City Hall and walked part of theBrooklyn Bridge.  We ate at the Meatball shop which was amazing, stopped by the Eatery and decided that is where we will have lunch today, We took the train to Chelsea and walked the HighLine Park, and had dinner at Blossoms, again another great meal!

Ms. Liberty, Liberty Island, New York City.

Yesterday wasn’t my first visit to Liberty Island, to see the Statue of Liberty, but I nevery tire of the ferry ride and a walk around the island, or the view of Manhattan skyline.  It is definitely worth the trip, everytime I am there I see new sights, and hear new stories from the rangers. This should be on everyone’s to see list while visiting New York City.

Christmas decorations – the Unicef Snowflake, NYC

I love Christmas decorations, this is the Unicef Snowflake hangs over the intersection of 57 st and 5 ave in Manhattan.  “A beacon of hope”  hangs November, December and January as a reminder of the groups mission to reach of a day when zero children die of preventable causes.

Tango Lessons, Central Park, NYC

From June until September you can learn Tango in Central Park, NYC.  Every Saturday at 6 pm a group gathers to dance, to demonstrate and to teach those who are interested.  It was amazing to watch, and if I hadn’t been busy taking pictures I might have joined in the lesson.  To watch the dancers weave their way around the cobblestone square was magic.

Mime, Central Park NYC

Mimes are fascinating to watch – the detail in the costumes, the time for their make-up, then they stand very still, almost frozen in time, for a while.  Yet they wait and watch the crowd watch them, then at the right moment interacting and entertaining the crowds.  This lady was in New York City, Central Park, it was a cool afternoon, while the crowds didn’t stay long to enjoy her show, plenty of the onlookers rewarded her efforts.

I have been revisiting some of my old photos – cataloguing, keywording, organizing and editing as I move everything to a new hard drive!  It has been fun revisiting the sites, the sounds and the smiles of the past and it is something I will continue to do periodically as time allows.  I hope you enjoy my trip down memory lane.

Lens Flare and the Statue of Liberty, NYC

If you take the ferry out to the Statue of Liberty, you can enjoy the park area, there is plenty of room to walk around.  Check out the skyline of Manhattan from a distance.  This is a view of the Statue of Liberty that we don’t see very often, and here I was experimenting with lens flare. I like the way the rings of light color her dress.

Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan reflects the sunrise

Brooklyn Bridge over looking Manhattan at sunrise.  It is a great view and every time I get a chance to be in New York City, I walk the Brooklyn Bridge, see the sights, and watch the people, many who are tourists just like me, and many who are commuting to or from work.  Interesting enough the white line isn’t to divide people coming and going…….it is to divide the bikes from the pedestrians.  It is another way you can tell the tourist from the regular users (besides the camera and the strolling pace) they walk out on one side and back on the other and every once in a while a cyclist tries to educate those who are on the wrong side of the line!

I am looking forward to a return visit…….someday.
