Calgary Peace Bridge, a study in symmetry

It was designed and placed on the Calgary Bow River to accommodate cyclist and pedestrian commuters into downtown Calgary. Symmetrical in design with a glass top it is another wonderful subject for the fish-eye lens! I did take this picture about 10 am on Sunday morning, shot from a low angle with the camera pointing up slightly the people who were on the other end of the bridge quickly disappeared into the horizon!
Spring Crocus, Nose Hill Park, Calgary Alberta
Posted: April 23, 2012 Filed under: Calgary Alberta, Calgary Photographer, flowers, jmeyersforeman, places | Tags: Alberta, Calgary, city park, Crocus, flower, Nose Hill Park, spring, sunflare 13 Comments »I went for a walk late yesterday afternoon, on Nose Hill Park, and much to my surprise the crocuses were blooming. I thought for sure that I would have missed them, that they would have bloomed by now and be all gone. But there were lots of the little flower with the delicate purple petals blowing in the wind. There had been a grass fire on the hill not too long ago so they were easy to spot, and needless to say I came home covered in charcoal and smelling like a fire, as I had to get right down on the ground to get the sun behind the flowers. Finally I can say spring has arrived.

we had a taste of winter on friday, a little snow on the ground, but it didn’t last, at least here in Calgary, but we know that it won’t be longer before winter is here. With predictions of a worse winter I have to admit I am not looking forward to it……
I have been experimenting with Florabella Actions recently, I used their afternoon action to warm this photo up a little.
Greenland from the airplane

I like to get up and walk around a bit, stretch my legs, and if he is watching tv or sleeping then I don’t have to disturb him, it is a perfect match because he hates the aisle seat!!!! One Sunday I had to make him move a couple of times because the view out the window was magical, and I wanted a photo. Lucky when we went over Greenland Bill was not sleeping, and we were not eating. I spotted the snow mountains and glistening lakes the view was amazing. I am in awe of the world’s beauty.

Arabian Proverb
Carly and her colt. The colts official name is Grand Torino, but known to family and friends as Reno. Reno is friendly and a nibbler, and he likes his treats. If I stood in one spot for too long he would come over to see if I had treats, or something to nibble on at least!
Carly, in her little slice of heaven!

It was a great night, watching her groom, feed and talk to her horses. Carley has three horses and a new colt so there was lots to do, and take pictures of. For this photo I wanted try a black and white photo, but found the contrast too stark, so I decided to warm it with a “honey” layer as the traditional sepia or antique type colors didn’t seem right either. The “honey” layer helps to keep the glow of the warm evening sun and seems to work best of all the options I tried last night! What do you think, does it work?
During this photo session I learned that it is harder to work with animals than it was working with kids! But I think with practise it would get easier…….. I have linked this back to Click it up a notch, a great blog about photography
The Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland
Posted: August 13, 2011 Filed under: photography, travel photography | Tags: cliffs, Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland, landscape photography, shoreline, sunflare, wordpress postaday2011 1 Comment »Bill and I visited the Cliffs of Moher, a couple of years ago. Ranked as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland, the cliffs rise 120 meters above the Atlantic Ocean, and you can see for miles on a clear day. It is a bit of a climb to the top of the cliff, and it can be challenging for those with mobility problems. We also walked down the foot path along the edge of the cliffs. It was a gorgeous morning and well worth the trip if you get a chance.

Shooting Star

I am not sure what these flowers are called, I call them “Shooting Stars” if you know their real name, let me know. I have always loved these flowers, but they point down and they are about 6 – 8 inches off the ground. So I was laying on the ground shooting up into the blue sky. I took advantage of the sunshine in the corner for a little sun flare. The shooting stars look great from this point of view, and it reminded me that I should try to look at things from a different angle once in a while.
