Posted: April 25, 2011 Filed under: flowers, spring, Wurzberg Germany | Tags: flowers, Magnolia, magnolia blooms, Magnolia tree, pink, spring, Wurzberg Germany 1 Comment »I love the color of Magnolia Blooms, and I love to sit under the tree on a sunny spring day, and stare up a the pink cloud above me. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately the Magnolia tree does not grow where I live. It is unfortunate in that I don’t get to see the beautiful blooms very often, but it is fortunate that I have had the opportunity to sit under the beautiful tree in spring and maybe because it doesn’t happen every spring for me I stop and enjoy the beauty just a little longer. It reminds me that I should take a little more time, here at home to see and enjoy the beauty that is around me.
I hope you found beauty and joy in your day.

I wish our front lawn looked like this, but instead our lawn is covered with snow. It is the middle of April and there is snow on the ground, and more snow in the forecast.
Anyone know when the flowers are coming?

As we rode the train from Franfurt to Wurzberg the walls along the train line were covered with it. It was very colorful and looked surprisingly similar to what we see at home.
This little gem was a small section on a wall in the walking streets of downtown Wurzberg. I am not sure which was added first the started face or the flying bird but it is quite comical, and I couldn’t resist photographing the idea to keep forever.

The vernacular name for this pilgrimage church is Nikolausberg and was built between 1747 and 1750. The church has been a place of pilgrimage for many years and is worth a visit for its views over the River Main. The steep lane, seen here is part of the city walk. From the street of Nikolausstrasse climb the steps past the stations of the cross, 4 terraces, 256 steps to the top, you will find a lavish church, that has been a landmark of the city for centuries.
The Path you see here is part of the city walk, before you get to the 256 steps and the stations of the cross. It is beautiful, and peaceful, and even through i was carrying a 10 kilo backpack worth the walk.

Sunday April 3, 2011 Bill and I had a great day in Würzburg. One of the site we toured was “The Residence in Würzburg” Napoleon called it the “loveliest parsonage in Europe” and UNESCO made it a world heritage site in 1981. No photos were allowed of the interior which has been completely restored. On Mar 16, 1945 Würzburg was bombed and the Residence was completely destroyed. Since that time, with the aid of documents and photographs about 30 of the 300 rooms have been restored.
Here are a couple of pictures of the garden, and exterior. Unlike home spring here is well on its way many of the trees are starting to leaf out, some are even blooming. The daffodils are blooming, pansies have been planted, and it was lovely to be in the garden.

Posted: April 2, 2011 Filed under: places, travel, Wurzberg Germany | Tags: Wurzberg Germany 1 Comment »Bill and I left Calgary about 6 pm friday April 1st. after dinner and movie and a short nap we were served breakfast and arrived in Frankfurt at about 11 am april 2, 2011 (local time) this is about 3 am at home! A stroll through the Frankfurt airport to clear customs, pick up bags and walk to the Frankfurt train station we boarded the 12:02 train to Würzburg.
I might have slept if not for the 7-year-old boy behind me that was watching a movie on his dvd player without a head set; he had so much fun and made a galant effort to fight with the superhero every bad guy that showed up on the screen.
By 1:30 pm we were in Würzburg and by 2:30 checked in to our hotel. After some lunch and a short rest we decided to wander the streets and forage for food. We wandered over to the Alte Mainbrucke a pedestrian bridge erected between 1473 and 1543 in place of an old Romanesque bridge. The statues of the Saints were added around 1730. You can see the Fortress Marienberg on the hill. and we will be taking a tour through the lovely fortress, museums and gardens tomorrow.
Along and near the bridge were several restaurants, people were enjoying the local white wine and the sun. It was great to see even through we are exhausted from our flight. If our plan works out it will be early to bed tonight (soon) a good night sleep and refreshed for tomorrow.
