We have been in Budapest for a couple of days, and it has been foggy at least near the Danube river where we have been walking. A little history; the Chain Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the Danube, it was the first permanent bridge built-in 1849 it linked the then two separate cities Buda and Pest. The two cities were unified 20 years later. The bridge is probably one of the most photographed sites in the city!
We arrived in Budapest late Friday afternoon, with some time and energy to wander around, getting to know the city center, and picking up a few groceries. November 1, All Saint’s Day, is a public holiday, most shops are closed for public holidays and Sundays. The streets and pedestrian walkways have been quiet, or at least quieter than expected for a city this large! We have seen lots of river cruise boats on the Danube, and tourist groups wandering the streets. Budapest has been described as Paris of the east, and we are looking forward to seeing more of it over the week.
