It has been a busy Autumn with family photos in the park. Autumn is a great time for family pictures, everyone loves the warm colorful leaves. This is always fun to spend time with kids in the park, and the boys were wonderful to work with. I hope they like their pictures as much as I liked spending time with them.
There is snow on the ground, and not too many families venturing out to the great outdoors for photos at this time of the year! But I have done portraits outside in the winter with all the snow, it can be quite lovely.
I had the opportunity to meet Kosti Muirhead thought BNI Rocky Mountain Thunder. As members of the morning networking group we have had the chance to chat a few times, and not that long ago he had the opportunity to make a presentation to the group about the services provide by Nerds on Site.
For small independent business having IT support on staff is impossibly expensive, and finding someone who can provide ongoing IT support customized to your individual needs can be both tricky and expensive. Well I am here to tell you that Kosti is just the answer.
Kosti contacted me a couple of weeks ago for business portraits, so it was an opportunity to learn a little more about him, his business and the services he provides. He understands how to ensure that your computer systems are working effectively, that the information is being backed up and is stored safely, and can make recommendations on improving you systems. He can do all of these things not just because he has had great training, and support from his company, but because he is a great listener.
When I visited with Kosti, I learned he , was on his way to Fort Steele. He belongs to a group who during events like Heritage weekend, dress as RCMP officers they play the part of the officers. We have all been to different historical parks and talked to or watched demonstrations by the people there. They provide entertainment and eduction on life during the time. Above is a picture of Kosti in his historical outfit. I processed it so that it had an old antique feel to it.
Remember, if you need IT services give Kosti at Nerds on Site a call.
I have known Erin since she was a little girl, of about 3 years old, it has been a joy to watch her grow into a wonderful young lady, and now expected mom. I was tickled when she asked me to do maternity photos. Belly shots she called them, we had a great morning trying out different backgrounds, tops, toys, blocks, ribbons, etc.
This image is one of my favorites. Layered with a texture in photoshop that blends well with the dress, Erin’s gaze cast down at the blocks. I used Nik Silver Effects Pro to convert to a black and white image. Erin loves the result, and we are already talking about newborn baby photos. And I am looking forward to meeting the new baby.
finally finished Megan’s photos. Megan had a very specific idea of the images she wanted, the look and the cloths, even some of the poses. It was my job to get the set and the lighting just right, and of course final editing. Once we were done the images she wanted we would play a little with each set up, and then we went out to play. Heading downtown we found an interesting location, and worked with the reflection, the black railing and black wall.
I introduced you to Megan last week. I am busy working through her images, but photography took over the weekend, and very little time for processing. I am going to try to bring a few more images to you this week, summer is over and I want to get back on track with blogging. We shall see how it goes.
I spent part of the weekend down at the Stampede Grounds, everyone in western Showcase was busy getting their part of the show ready. The Western Photo Gallery looks great, the photos are hung, and I have to say that the jury panel did an amazing job picking work this year.
I am looking forward to the Stir-up event on Wednesday night, and possibly walking around the stampede grounds to see what is left to be done. I have ordered my “hell or high-water” t-shirt, and I am looking forward to watching the rodeo and chuck wagon races on the new track they have been building since the flood.
Working in Photoshop with layers and textures has always been fascinating to me. Starting with a simple portrait and layering graphics, textures and words creates a one of a kind portrait; an art piece for people. I am looking for people in the Calgary area who are interesting in collaborating on this very personal project.
Learning from people like Kate Klassen who has textures and tutorials, and who creates lovely vignettes of everyday life
I have had this project, figure, form and texture on hold a very long time, working on it in bits and pieces, between claims and photography assignments! yesterday I stopped everything for a couple of hours and worked on this, part of a personal project. I will show you more over the next few weeks. The figure and form project has been percolating away on the back burner for quite sometime, probably a year now. With only the occasional opportunity to move forward. I think sometimes projects need that kind of time, and sometimes I wish they would move faster!
I need two things to make this project work, people, or more specifically ladies, if you are in the Calgary area and what to collaborate on the project send me an email. Secondly, I would like some feedback!
Yesterday the sun was shining, it looks like the nice weather has finally come to Calgary, and I hope it lasts through the summer! The hard part is spending time in the basement studio, processing images, and getting my work done when I really want to be outside.
Working with Jillian does make it easier to be in the basement, she is beautiful and therefore her images are also beautiful!
Today is going to be another wonderful day, but I am determined to get her photo package done, so today is a promise of things to come.
Don Ross and Brooke Miller performed at two events in Calgary this last weekend. the first, Friday night, was a house concert, in a friend’s home. Dean gathered a small group of friends for this wonderful evening. During the first part of the evening the sun was streaming in the window, putting the faces of the two performers in the shadows, then during the 2nd half of the show, we had two living room lights to light the room. Needless to say both lighting situations had their challenges for photography, and the reason for black and white images.
