grassy snow; another cold morning in Calgary
Another cold crisp morning for my walked to work morningcommute
It has been another extremely cold week here in Calgary, and I will admit to driving further than walking during my morning commute! My fitbit tells me I averaged about 8000 steps a day, and a lot of those steps were in the +15 walkway rather than out in the cold! Winter seems to be colder and longer this year. When the weather is decent my average step count is closer to 12,000 steps. But I hear the weather is going to improve.
foggy walk to work, the view of downtown Calgary rarely the same two days in a row

buggies for the photo challenge for green.
This week from my Instagram feed, the walk to work is rarely the same two days in a row! A couple of the images were posted for a photo-a-day photo challenge, a new word each day to inspire me. Click on the image to see the image in a large size.
Three of the four photos were taken and edited on my smartphone. With the 30 minute walk to work each day I am finding it much harder and harder to carry my camera with me. I have found I am able to edit my photos using the tools provided in the gallery or photo app. Then recently I decided to download the Lightroom Mobile app, and over the week I have been taking a little time to learn the features, wonderful! Loving it!
I hope you are enjoying your week, I would love to hear from you, has your routine changed lately, how has your photography adapting to that change.
It has been raining for the last two days and when it isn’t raining there is a misty fog that hangs in the air. We expected the weather to be less than ideal, after all it is winter here, so we were prepared with rain coats, hats and umbrellas. Amsterdam is still a beautiful city.
I have already lost one hat, the wind took it for a ride, and it went sailing down the canal!
We will not be deterred, or cold or wet, I bought new hat, and we continued to explore the city, taking photos along the way.
The weather man is warning Calgary of sever winter weather ahead, and I am dreaming of some of the warmer places we could be. Sunrise is one of the lovely quite times on the cruise ship. The sunrise isn’t always this colourful, and they are often over quickly.
Maybe I will brave the weather and see what photos I can get of Calgary today…..
This photo was taken on our last trip across the Atlantic Ocean, one of the rainy days, lucky for us there weren’t too many of them. But I have to admit there is something very meditative about sitting on the deck of a ship looking out in the blue. With nothing specific to focus on, just the various shades of blue in the water and the sky is calming. Such beauty is enchanting.
On another note, the weather around Calgary the next couple of days is supposed to be wet and rainy. We will be looking forward to the blue sky the meteorologist has promised by Saturday.
delicate leafy palm umbrella.
I have been working through my library of images, processing them and getting them ready for the stock agency. The work has me going back through some holiday pictures of warm weather holiday places. It is cold outside, not the -20C that it might be in Ottawa! but it is winter in Canada, and since I am not able to get away for a warm weather holiday at this time this seems like a good place to be, tucked away in my cozy office/studio looking at holiday pictures!
I love the delicate feathery stems that reach out from the center of the tree providing a cool green all natural umbrella.
Driving home last night it was cold, foggy; this morning when I woke up the frost covered the trees, it was snowing and right now it is -6C. As far as winter in Canada the temperatures really aren’t that cold, and admittedly it is much colder in other parts of the country. But like most Canadians at this point of the year we are dreaming of travelling to someplace warmer!
This photo was taken sometime ago and the travellers/tourists out sightseeing, are enjoying not only the nice warm ideal weather, but the beautiful view of the Caribbean Ocean. Their dark silhouette against the blue ocean and framed by the tree makes it a perfect postcard memory!
How about you where would you like to be standing today?
we have glass globes hanging on the back deck, the view down the street is upside down, it is quite interesting to watch the season change through the glass. This weekend I noticed frost on the glass globe one of the prettiest views through the glass I have noticed in a long time. I grabbed my macro lens to capture a few images.
I hope you are staying warm.
