Cyanotype – Alternative Photography

Cyanotype comes from the Greek word cyan, meaning ‘dark-blue impression.’

Cyanotypes were first invented by astronomer and physicist, John Frederick William Hershel (1792-1871), and gained popularity with photographers in the 1800’s.

The recognizable Prussian Blue color comes from using iron salt in the sensitizing mix, versus silver salt as used in traditional photography

I have been making Cyanotype Images and exploring the possibilities available through Etsy.
